Millicharged cosmic rays and low recoil detectors

چکیده

We consider the production of a ``fast flux'' hypothetical millicharged particles (mCPs) in interstellar medium. two possible sources induced by cosmic rays: (a) $pp\ensuremath{\rightarrow}(\mathrm{meson})\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}(\mathrm{mCP})$, which adds to atmospheric mCPs, and (b) cosmic-ray upscattering on component dark matter. notice that galactic magnetic fields retain mCPs for long time, leading an enhancement fast flux many orders magnitude. In both scenarios, we calculate expected signal direct matter detection aimed at electron recoil. observe scenario neutrino detectors (ArgoNeuT Super-Kamiokande) still provide superior sensitivity compared (XENON1T). However, scenarios with boosted component, perform better, given upscattered low velocities. Given uncertainties, generation model actual atomic physics recoil, it is XENON1T-reported excess may come from mCP flux, will be decisively tested future experiments.

Detectors for Cosmic Rays on Ground and in Space ∗

The origin of the cosmic rays has been a great mystery since they were discovered by Victor Hess in 1912. AGASA’s observation of ultra-high-energy cosmic-rays (UHECR) possibly beyond the GZK (Greisen, Zatsepin and Kuzmin) cutoff stimulated the field in great deal. In addition, Kamiokande’s detection of neutrinos from SN1987A and the H.E.S.S.’s detection of TeV gamma-rays from supernova remnants...

Precision X-ray transition radiation detectors for cosmic rays

Precision transition radiation detectors (TRDs) can be an effective tool for determining the energy spectra of cosmic ray nuclei up to the energies of the knee. They offer unique measurement capabilities and embody design principles which are somewhat different from those of the threshold TRDs used in accelerator experiments. We will discuss some of the characteristics of these instruments, inc...

Transition Radiation Detectors for Cosmic Rays Near the Knee

Precise observations of the energy spectra and relative abundances of cosmic-ray nuclei require instruments that exhibit individual charge resolution and a calibrated energy response. If energies up to ∼1015 eV are to be covered, the low intensity of the heavier nuclei (Z 3) also mandates detector areas of several square meters. X-ray transition radiation detectors (TRDs) appear to provide the ...

Low cloud properties influenced by cosmic rays

The influence of solar variability on climate is currently uncertain. Recent observations have indicated a possible mechanism via the influence of solar modulated cosmic rays on global cloud cover. Surprisingly the influence of solar variability is strongest in low clouds (</=3 km), which points to a microphysical mechanism involving aerosol formation that is enhanced by ionization due to cosmi...

24 . Cosmic rays 1 24 . COSMIC RAYS

The cosmic radiation incident at the top of the terrestrial atmosphere includes all stable charged particles and nuclei with lifetimes of order 106 years or longer. Technically, “primary” cosmic rays are those particles accelerated at astrophysical sources and “secondaries” are those particles produced in interaction of the primaries with interstellar gas. Thus electrons, protons and helium, as...
